"DEAR DIARY"
by Dionté
"Dear Diary" is my sophomore album, and follow-up to my EP “Indigo”. This project is dedicated to themes of independence, self confidence, and sensuality. Being able to express your sexuality freely and survive on your own without a significant other, but also being able to appreciate those who stand by your side along the journey. Fighting against society's binary social norms and embracing your individuality.

About the Tracks
Track 1, “Back Again” definitely sets the tone for the rest of the album; Fun yet Fierce! The amazing instrumental was produced by BJ (a.k.a. Zealous), and lyrically I just wanted to make the statement that I’m back bitches ✊🏾, lol. Definitely had fun with this one (I still crack up at the beginning 😂) but trust, you’re gonna gag! 😉
Track 2, “Drippin’ in Sauce”, is without a doubt my favorite song on the album 💖🙌🏾 It was the first track that BJ (a.k.a. Zealous) and I worked on. Lyrically, the song was inspired by my lack of desire for designer fashion and bein able to turn looks without them 💁🏾 You don’t have to spend a bunch of coin to look good ☝🏾
Track 4, “Red Light”, along with the accompanying interlude, was of course inspired by my experiences with the gross dudes on Grindr, JACK’d, all that 😒. The ones who swear they can just talk to anyone like they’re a piece of meat. Unfortunately for them, I don’t take disrespect too lightly 🙃
Track 5, “Take a Pic”, I had so much fun writing and producing this one 😂 I just wanted a really upbeat track that just makes you feel like “Yasss” 😝 lol. On a serious note, this song was inspired by all of the looks I get 👀 (both good and bad) just walkin around bein myself, lookin the way that I do 🤷🏾 Adding Light to a sometimes dark situation 😅
Track 7, “eXXXperimentation”, is honestly one of my favorites 💕, considering the fact that it details an experience I face often 🤷🏾. I’ve encountered plenty of straight identifying guys looking to explore their sexuality 😏, and this track's accompanying interlude, "Masculinity", touches on how the exploration of a man's sexuality is often looked down upon. Therefore, this serves as a lil PSA saying that it’s okay to do so.
Track 8, “Wasabi!”, also produced by BJ (a.k.a. Zealous), is my body positivity anthem 💪🏾! I’ve had quite the journey getting comfortable with my own body 🙈,and so have many of my peers. You don't see many positive images of different body, gender identities, etc. represented within mainstream media. Therefore I wanted listeners to know that they're just fine despite what pop culture may say.
Track 9, a special remix of “No New Friends” featuring my younger sister 👯♀️! The original track was featured on my EP “Indigo”, but after I heard my sister’s verse 😱 (Yes, she wrote her verse) I had to have her record it for the album. The song was inspired by my ability to read people’s vibes 👀 I can tell whether someone’s toxic pretty quickly, and if I haven’t formed a relationship with you, well ☕️. Better off riding solo or stickin' with the ones that’ve been there since day one ☝🏾
Track 11, “Bitch, I’m Dionté”. Inspired by Monét X’Change’s song “Beyonce” and some encouraging words from Todrick Hall, which are heard in the accompanying interlude, this song serves as the culmination of me coming into my own. I've spent years doubting myself and comparing myself to others, but now I'm at a stage in life where others are now comparing themselves to me. Why? Because bitch, I'm Dionté!
